Adult and Pediatric Hearing Evaluations

Comprehensive diagnostic evaluations to determine the cause and most appropriate treatment for hearing disorders. Our multidisciplinary team provides the latest technology to evaluate and treat your hearing and balance needs.

Hearing Aid Services

We offer the most technologically appropriate, advanced hearing aids fit to your hearing loss and communication needs. Included in our services are comprehensive follow-up, lifetime cleaning and programming adjustments, and one to three year manufacturer warranty, covering any repairs needed.

Cochlear Implant Program

Cochlear implants are electronic devices designed to bring a sense of sound to people who have severe to profound hearing loss. We are the home of Idaho’s primary cochlear implant program. We provide comprehensive evaluation and follow up services to cochlear implant candidates of all ages. Please call for more information regarding your options and if you or a loved one qualifies.

Auditory Evoked Potentials

Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEP) are also referred to as Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) or Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER). The ABR is evaluated by measuring the latency, or time it takes for the stimulus (sound) to travel through the auditory system to the lower brainstem. Auditory evoked potentials have very important clinical uses such as screening for possible hearing loss in newborns, evaluating auditory responses in infants and difficult to test populations and validation of hearing threshold in some adults. The ABR is also used as part of a battery of tests to assess site of lesion or hearing disorders resulting from abnormalities beyond the inner ear.

Videonystagmography

Videonystagmography (VNG) is part of a battery of tests to evaluate the vestibular (balance) system. VNG measures the movements of the eyes directly through infrared cameras. The eyes are connected to the vestibular system through the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR). We use the VNG to evaluate this pathway in order to diagnose and develop treatment plans for many vestibular (balance) disorders.

Educational Audiology

Partnering with local schools, we provide hearing screening, testing and consultation of FM systems, hearing aids, cochlear implants and other assistive listening devices in a variety of educational settings. Call today to see how we could work together!

Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) Testing and Treatment

Central Auditory Processing disorders and delays are evaluated by a multidisciplinary team. We work with the primary care doctor, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech language pathologists, teachers, the parents and others to diagnose and treat CAPD. The audiologist evaluates the peripheral and central auditory systems to identify strengths and weakness of the auditory processing system to help the team plan appropriate intervention and treatment plans.

Tinnitus Evaluation and Management

We offer multifaceted, comprehensive evaluation, consultation and treatment options for patients suffering from tinnitus. Please see our Library for complete information.

Assistive and Adaptive Devices

There are many Assistive Listening Devices available today, from sophisticated systems used in theaters and auditoriums to small personal systems. Our offices can help you to determine if an Assistive listening device (ALD) system will be right for you. Call today to discuss with an Audiologist.

Adult Aural Rehabilitation Group

The adult aural rehabilitation group is a series of 4 classes on various topics related to hearing loss, hearing aids, communication strategies, self advocacy and assistive technology. The class is free and open to any person with hearing loss and their communication partners. Classes are offered once a month. Please call our office for a class schedule.

Speech-Language Therapy

Speech-Language Therapy is the treatment for most kids with speech and/or language disorders. A speech disorder refers to a problem with the actual production of sounds, whereas a language disorder refers to a difficulty understanding or putting words together to communicate ideas. Our Speech-Language Pathologists ( SLPs) are professionals educated in the study of human communication, its development, and its disorders. In Speech-Language Therapy, an SLP will work with a child one-to-one, in a small group, or directly in a classroom to overcome difficulties involved with a specific disorder. Our clinic provides services specifically designed in the evaluation and treatment of speech and language disorders resulting from hearing loss or other disorders of the auditory system

Comprehensive Vestibular & Balance Evaluations and Rehabilitation

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy, or VRT involves a diverse array of treatment methods for patients, depending on the particular vestibular (inner ear) pathology. The rehabilitation methods typically vary between patients, and are highly individualized, as every case is unique. Programs are designed to address dizziness/vertigo, balance, gait, and the general fitness needs of each patient. Frequently, a home exercise program is assigned to the patient for them to work on between treatment visits, to enhance the results of VRT.

Computerized Dynamic Posturography (CDP)

We utilize The NeuroCom® International SMART Equitest® to provide objective measurements of balance and/or vestibular impairments. The most frequently used component is the Sensory Organization Test (SOT). The SOT evaluates how patients utilize their balance sensory systems. Also included in the assessment protocol, is the inVision system used for patients with visual disturbances. Two tests are typically utilized which include the Gaze Stabilization Test (GST) and the Dynamic Visual Acuity (DVA) Test. The GST is helpful in providing information regarding the function of the reflex (VOR) between the vestibular system and the eye muscles. The DVA identifies impairments in a patient’s ability to identify visual targets accurately while moving their head. After testing CDP or inVision, if below normal results are found, the vestibular therapists can prescribe exercises to help strengthen or improve these deficits.

Treatment for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)

Many patients with BPPV are seen and treated at our clinics utilizing a canalith repositioning maneuver (CRM). This particular type of vertigo can often be resolved in one or two therapy sessions. Please see our library for additional information.

Cervicogenic Evaluation and Treatment

Cervicogenic dizziness is characterized by dizziness and dysequilibrium that is associated with neck pain in patients with cervical pathology. When diagnosed correctly, cervicogenic dizziness can be successfully treated using a combination of manual therapy and vestibular rehabilitation.

Computerized Balance Screens

Computerized balance screens utilizing the NeuroCom® Portable BASIC Balance Master provide assessment for community fall prevention programs. Using this state-of-the-art balance equipment, our vestibular therapist can provide basic assessment of your balance or dizziness issues and make appropriate recommendations for therapy to your primary care physician. Free balance screenings are offered at health fairs throughout the community.

Fall Prevention

Imbalance and falls are not normal occurrences of aging. By making simple changes in the home and receiving balance therapy, many falls can be prevented. We offer training, tips and recommendations to make you safer in your home.

Community Vestibular Support Group

Our Balance and Vestibular Disorders Support Group is for anyone experiencing vertigo, dizziness or balance problems. The support group offers people with balance problems or vestibular disorders an opportunity to meet face-to-face with others who are experiencing similar challenges. Vestibular Physical Therapists provide presentations on relevant topics of interest. The support group is offered quarterly at the Elks Hearing & Balance Center Meridian clinic.
